Every month, for the past three years, Community Heroes from Fairfield Village Community Association have been fighting the Evil Grot to keep Fairfield village and the surrounding area clear of discarded rubbish, which includes bags of dog waste, empty cans and spirit bottles, half-full paint tins, car bumpers, cigarette stubs and green waste.
Discarded rubbish blights a beautiful landscape, pollutes the earth and can prove deadly if accidentally eaten by livestock and wildlife.
On Saturday 13th April, the Community Association will be giving the village a Spring Clean. In addition to litter picking the roads and recreations areas in the community, signs will be washed, and village planters weeded.
The monthly litter picks, which take place on the second Saturday of each month, are a great opportunity for the community to come together and to build pride in where they live. The Association’s slogan is Your Home, Your Village, Your Community, and the act of litter picking has helped developed friendships and the end results has created a welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
If you would like to take part in the Fairfield Spring Clean, meet outside the Village Hall on Stourbridge Road 10.30am. Please wear suitable clothes and footwear, children to be accompanied by an adult. Litter picking equipment will be provided. If you have a bucket, sponge or weeding implement please bring it with you.
